About us

We are Midcoast Rucking — a friendly, non-competitive, all-weather rucking and fitness club. No egos, just effort. We're an official GORUCK ruck club! We operate our club with two simple rules: 1. No a$$holes 2. Don't get hurt!

OUR PROGRAMS

  • Road Rucking

Just put on your ruck and hit the road! Choose your own weight, bring water. Sometimes we’ll do a loop, sometimes it’s a walk out to a set point and back. Generally 3-5 miles, but once in a while we’ll do an “endurance ruck” for 5-10 miles. We usually bring an extra sandbag or two to share among the group. This is the most basic form of rucking — great conversations happen on the road!

    mixed training

Mixed training is the rucking box of chocolates: Load your ruck moderately and be ready for anything. We’ll stop frequently to use our rucks as training equipment, incorporating calisthenics and bodyweight exercises for some extra spice. We try to hit at least 3 miles — and we’ll use whatever we find along the way to challenge ourselves: hills, park benches, big rocks, schoolyard playgrounds, even driftwood.

    sandbags & such

This is rucking without a ruck, featuring sandbags, medicine balls, kettlebells, steel maces, clubbells, and other instruments of discomfort. We’ll meet up in a designated parking lot, ball field, or driveway for an outdoor strength training session. Caution: this workout might include 80’s music blaring on a Bluetooth speaker. Everything is scalable, but remember: discomfort is the objective!
  • Trail Rucking

Midcoast Maine is full of amazing trails with natural scenery (and mosquitoes)! Trail rucking is just like road rucking… but on a trail. Choose your own weight, bring water, and match your footwear to the weather and terrain (barefoot on the beach!). Generally 3-5 miles with some elevation changes. We might pause somewhere for a snack and to take in the view — and if we’re near a river, lake, or the ocean, chances are pretty good that we’ll jump into the water.

    Community service

Sometimes we ruck for a good cause. We’ve done 5K rucks to support the Travis Manion Foundation and the Travis Mills Foundation. We’ve even loaded our rucks with canned goods to donate to the Midcoast Hunger Prevention Program. Got an idea? Share it with us!

    camaraderie

Rucking builds community! (Shhh: it’s kinda like group therapy disguised as exercise!) After most of our rucks we hang out for a bit and enjoy each other’s company. We’ll relax over coffee and scones or pizza and beer. Every now and then, we’ll gather around a firepit in someone’s back yard with some good tunes and a beverage (or two) of choice for some good conversation.
